IBM Has High Hopes For the Future of Technology – Mind Reading, Energy, Digital World
- Mind reading is no longer science fiction.
- You will be able to power your home with the energy you create yourself.
- You will never need a password again.
- The digital divide will cease to exist.
- Junk mail will become priority mail.
If you just need to think about calling someone, it happens. Or you can control the cursor on a computer screen just by thinking about where you want to move it.Scientists in the field of bioinformatics have designed headsets with advanced sensors to read electrical brain activity that can recognize facial expressions, excitement and concentration levels, and thoughts of a person without them physically taking any actions.
Within five years, we will begin to see early applications of this technology in the gaming and entertainment industry. Furthermore, doctors could use the technology to test brain patterns, possibly even assist in rehabilitation from strokes and to help in understanding brain disorders, such as autism. – CNET
It all seems pretty interesting, but it’s difficult for me to picture how using my mind will be more convenient than using my hand, especially if I’m going to be walking around with an EEG attached to my head. Either way, I’m excited to see what the future brings in the mind reading field, whether or not it’s practical.
The rest of the list seems much more realistic to me, especially when it comes to renewable energy. Technologies are advancing at a very rapid pace in the renewable energy industry. In fact, wind energy from turbines has the potential to drastically change the energy industry.
We’ve barely even scratched the surface. Currently, the United States is the global leader in wind energy. We’ve come a very long way from where we were just 20 years ago. In fact, the costs of wind power have dropped about 90% since then. There are a few reasons for this: increased demand for renewable energies, better technology, government incentives, and market confidence just to name a few.
The wind power industry is indeed looking very promising. In July 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy put out a report titled “20% Wind Energy by 2030 – Increasing Wind Energy’s Contribution to U.S. Electricity Supply“. - PoweredByMotherNature.com
Our landscapes will most likely look very different in the future if wind turbines continue to grow in popularity as a means of producing alternative energy.
